Do I need an individual or corporate trustee for my fund?

While you can have individual trustees, we almost always recommend a Corporate Trustee structure for our modern clients. A corporate trustee provides better asset protection, simplifies the succession process if a member passes away, and makes it much easier to manage the fund’s legal titles. Most major lenders also prefer (or require) a corporate trustee for SMSF property loans. We can handle the entire company secretarial setup as part of your fund establishment.

Can my SMSF borrow money to buy property?

Yes, your fund can borrow to purchase residential or commercial property through a Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangement (LRBA). This is a specialised structure where the lender’s rights are limited to the property itself, protecting your other super assets. While the rules are strict—for example, you can not buy your own home or a family members home —we have the know-how to keep these complex arrangements 100% compliant.
